I have canceled my subscription to City of Heroes, a game I love.

Why? Because it has eaten a 20 month hole in my life. I'd guess I spend about 15 hours a week playing it, on average. Somewhere in the region of 1200 hours of my life gone. It has gotten in the way of my relationship with Natalya, with the kids, with God. It has gotten in the way of my writing, of my role playing, of my church planting.

It has cost me approximately $500 and counting. A fortnights groceries or a new phone, more RAM for my PC, money towards paying off debt.

Maybe those figures don't seem that big, but given that I probably have around 32 hours a week to spend with the kids, depriving them of 15 of them is a huge cost.

My subscription runs out in June, so I can still play for a while yet, but I don't plan too. Though I am not sure how well I'll resist that temptation. City of Heroes is an awesome game and Issue 12 is coming out with heaps of cool new content and stuff.

But I need to stop now.
